Well as you know this game is for psp only, I got the chance of looking at the story via the beautifully done cutscenes which looks like a digital comic/ animatics. The story at this time follows 6 years after Snaker Eater operations (MGS3), Naked Snake who earned the title Big Boss by defeating the legendary Herorine the Boss.
He still feels as though he couldn't surpass the Boss. Snake is captured by his own FOX force, FOX is starting a revoke against the world with Nuclear strike. Lieutenant Cunningham interrigate Snake to ask for the other half of the Philosopher legacy.
Snake must prove his innocence by recruiting soldiers One of his new comrades is Roy Campbell (yes the commander of Foxhound in MG2 & MGS) who sides with Big Boss and forms FOXHOUND. They manage to recruit Jonathan who is the grandfather of Johnny Sasaki (The soldier who has diahria problems), Jonathan plays an important role who blocks a bullet for Big Boss when his team gone crazy. And also the aspect of a soldier who is isn't loyal to a country or to justice but to himself.
Bosses such as Null plays an important role, Null is Gray Fox or the Cyborg Ninja in MGS. He is subjected as a perfect soldier by the CIA who has to be erase all emotion and memory. He is the model of Genome Soldier in MGS. It explains how Big Boss met Frank Jaegar, he met him in Mozambique four years ago when Big Boss left FOX and travels the world. There were a child soldier in the Guerrila group in the struggle of independences. He killed a dozen of government soldiers with a single knife by throwing the innocence of a boy to drop off-guard of the enemy. He spoke a little German so his enemy named him Frank Jaegar, Big Boss saved him and put him a rehab facility but it was owned by th CIA. So I would say he's 12 when he joined FOX, in the end rehab couldn't help Null. He couldn't live his life as a normal human. It also explains why Gray Fox is so loyal towards Big Boss later on, he was raised as a tool and subjected in to a puppet but Big Boss always watches him and took him in as his son.
The story itself is another powerful narrative story, as Snake progresses into the the story. You can see that he's not only a solo specialist but a strong leading commander, yet there is a character development for him. He gradually accepts the title Big Boss. And also he realise that the battlefield is where he truly can be alive. And once again we get to see Ocelot betraying the CIA, he requests the "Strategist" that him and Big Boss become members of the Partiots, therfore it explains why Big Boss is featured in MGS4.
Another suprising element is that everything that happened in MGS series is already predetermined by one of the Philosophers - "Strategist", he already planned out the events of Snake Eater operation such as Volgin nuke strike, Boss setup in betrayal and Naked Snake Assasin the Boss. And now he planned out Shadow Moses which is a redraft of this game, and also Sons of Liberty.
Big Boss inherited Gene's finincial which he will make Outer Heaven, a similiar dream to Gene. A nation that only soldier can co-exist.
