Once

I've been watching loads of films lately but I writing this about film because of the recent Oscar award and this film is musical and is a British film.

Summary
"An (unnamed) Guy is a Dublin guitarist/singer-songwriter who makes a living by fixing vacuum cleaners in his Dad's Hoover repair shop by day, and singing and playing for money on the Dublin streets by night. An (unnamed) Girl is a Czech who plays piano when she gets a chance, and does odd jobs by day and takes care of her mom and her daughter by night. Guy meets Girl, and they get to know each other as the Girl helps the Guy to put together a demo disc that he can take to London in hope of landing a music contract. During the same several day period, the Guy and the Girl work through their past loves, and reveal their budding love for one another, through their songs."

The film is amazing considering it is done with 2 handycams and the budgetting was £3000. The acting was truly amazing from the performance from the main characters. One of my rememorable scene is the shaking camera that gave the impression of the real-time documentary style and the actors were performing. The story is very unexpecting in the end(without spoiling) and here is my review.

My Rating:
9/10

Glen Hansard: “Thanks! This is amazing. What are we doing here? This is mad. We made this film two years ago. We shot on two Handycams. It took us three weeks to make. We made it for a hundred grand. We never thought we would come into a room like this and be in front of you people. It’s been an amazing thing. Thanks for taking this film seriously, all of you. It means a lot to us. Thanks to the Academy, thanks to all the people who’ve helped us, they know who they are, we don’t need to say them. This is amazing. Make art. Make art. Thanks.”

Marketa Irglova: “Hi everyone. I just want to thank you so much. This is such a big deal, not only for us, but for all other independent musician and artists that spend most of their time struggling, and this, the fact that we’re standing here tonight, the fact that we’re able to hold this, it’s just to prove no matter how far out your dreams are, it’s possible. And, you know, fair play to those who dare to dream and don’t give up. And this song was written from a perspective of hope, and hope at the end of the day connects us all, no matter how different we are. And so thank you so much, who helped us along way. Thank you.”

The moral of the story is follow your dreams even if it's slim chance.

Films!!!!

I feel like updating my film blogs, I mean it's good to critize films to understand filming.
The film I like to start off with is
Letters from Iwo Jima:
Summary:
"The island of Iwo Jima stands between the American military force and the home islands of Japan. Therefore the Imperial Japanese Army is desperate to prevent it from falling into American hands and providing a launching point for an invasion of Japan. General Tadamichi Kuribayashi is given command of the forces on the island and sets out to prepare for the imminent attack. General Kuribayashi, however, does not favor the rigid traditional approach recommended by his subordinates, and resentment and resistance fester among his staff. In the lower echelons, a young soldier, Saigo, a poor baker in civilian life, strives with his friends to survive the harsh regime of the Japanese army itself, all the while knowing that a fierce battle looms. When the American invasion begins, both Kuribayashi and Saigo find strength, honor, courage, and horrors beyond imagination."

The film is directed by Clint Eastwood, this film is amazing. It is told from the Japanese side and how they cope with honour, Pride and friendship from the eyes of Saigo. The actor who played Saigo who I seen him in a drama called Stand Up!! which is similiar to American Pie but more of friendship theme, he had outstanded himself. I was amazed how convincing he was was with mixed feeling like sorrow and anger etc.
Another note, the filming of the battlefield felt realistic with the shaking camera and following the soldier from a third person shoulder view.

My Rating:
9/10

Atonement:

Summary:
"In 1935, 13-year-old fledgling writer Briony Tallis and her family live a life of wealth and privilege in their enormous mansion. On the warmest day of the year, the country estate takes on an unsettling hothouse atmosphere, stoking Briony's vivid imagination. Robbie Turner, the educated son of the family's housekeeper, carries a torch for Briony's headstrong older sister Cecilia. Cecilia, he hopes, has comparable feelings; all it will take is one spark for this relationship to combust. When it does, Briony -- who has a crush on Robbie -- is compelled to interfere, going so far as accusing Robbie of a crime he did not commit. Cecilia and Robbie declare their love for each other, but he is arrested -- and with Briony bearing false witness, the course of three lives is changed forever. Briony continues to seek forgiveness for her childhood misdeed. Through a terrible and courageous act of imagination, she finds the path to her uncertain atonement, and to an understanding of the power of enduring love."

Suprisingly I usually don't go for these films but theres somethine I liked about it when I watched the trailers. That is the directing of photography is mind blowing such as the scene where Robbie who travelled to the port with his comrades surrounded by citizens and allies and also when Robbie travelled through the country in the war.
I like how the film structured though I was spoiled by a friend what happened in the end but I was expecting a bit more from the film which is hard to say.

My Rating:
8/10

Superbad:
Summary:
Seth and Evan are best friends, inseparable, navigating the last weeks of high school. Usually shunned by the popular kids, Seth and Evan luck into an invitation to a party, and spend a long day, with the help of their nerdy friend Fogell, trying to score enough alcohol to lubricate the party and inebriate two girls, Jules and Becca, so they can kick-start their sex lives and go off to college with a summer full of experience and new skills. Their quest is complicated by Fogell's falling in with two inept cops who both slow and assist the plan. If they do get the liquor to the party, what then? Is sex the only rite of passage at hand?
This film is like an another American Pie film about frienship and sex so there wouldn't be an originally idea.
Lets see the comedy of the film is funny with several different characters with different style such as Evan who is a quicky funny guy while Fogell is the nerd funny and the cops are slow and has no sense of Justice.
My rating:
7/10
Alien Vs Predator 2
Summary:
"A little town in the hills of Colorado will become the battleground between two of the deadliest extra-terrestrial lifeforms - the Alien and the Predator. When a Predator scout ship crash-lands in the hills outside the town, Alien facehuggers are released in the crash, and an even more evil creature - a hybrid Alien/Predator - is also released. A man & his son hunting in the forests near the crash site soon become the first victims of the facehuggers, and when a Predator receives data about the crash on his home planet, he comes to Earth. One at a time, the inhabitants of the town become targets of the Aliens and the Predator, including the local sheriff, a young female soldier recently returned from Iraq, and several teens. Though the National Guard is called in, they are unable to stop the deadly creatures, and a plan is set in motion to destroy the town with a nuclear device... "
My only concern is that how low can the director be by killing children and pregnant woman. Though in a sense it is realistic that both people will be involved.
More importantly when the female soldier explains that the government is lying, how ignorant are the people and they believe that going into the center of the town where Aliens are spawingn are being rescued.
Also the Predator is so stupid in the film and he has these highly advanced weapons and I felt the Alien are hell smarter than the Predator.
Alo the predalien was so confusing as it is so similiar to the Predator especially in the finally shown down.
Overall it is more better than I would expect as a sequel.

Silence is Golden

God it feels ages since I've blogging again. Ok first off, I'll like to say goodbye to January. Time really goes by quickly when you're unaware of it.

Once again I am posting news about what happened to me these days. Looking back from my early days of my blog or when I started college. I had no ambition and what path I'll take especially I had no self confidents.

So whats happening?, like my previous blog mentioned about the 'All Tied Up' event organised by Re-Hash (a group of students who made this exhibition for one of their modules.)
The actually event turned out really awesome but it was snowing earlier and it was freezing in the warehouse.
I attended the event and have two of my work posted up. One is the advertisement video and below is my illustration I've done:

The event was really good but the burger costed about 3 pound and I was told the food/drinks would be free...
I got to meet some cool people and some found that it was hard to believe that two second year made the video. Most of all, me and the FJK was greeted by a BBC video editor who wanted to meet us!! We got compliments for the vid for it's short, simple and easy message.

We took in advises, though I don't think I want to be in the advertisement industry but it could be my backup plan if things don't work out.

Also because of this video we were asked to make another video for a break dancing event and we also got a work experience placement.

At my free time I'm practising my skills in Maya and was able to grasp it. It's been so long since I used it, I think it was last year I last touched it. I was originally planning to help a local film maker for a WW1 short film which has gun shots scenes. But it's going to take time to master the CGI clips.
This is my first proper CG modelling rendering of bullets. I made the texture from scratch and it turned out pretty well:

Next thing I'm jumping to a advancer stage and I'm making a Thompson Contender pistol:
