MGS4:Guns of the Patriots ~Game review~ pt.2
Now that I completed the game, I will write about my experience with this game. I'll try and keep away from the spoilers.
The Metal Gear Saga has been going on for about 20 years since the debut of Metal Gear in 1987. Each game set in a different time but MGS4 is the final story of the iconic character Solid Snake. What makes MGS games amazing is that the series has such an in depth narrative storytelling and it's all connecting and MGS4 is the glue that put them together. The game requires to install 8GB at certain chapter chapters, I like it as it tells the players to take regular breaks from playing tiredly. The screen shows Snake lighting his Cigarette and finally smoking.
The game starts off with David Hayter who is the voice actor of Solid Snake being interviewd by a woman. And as I watched this I tried pressing buttons and you can watch tv ads. Now I realized that I'm watching a televison program within the game. After finishing we get to watch the intro of the game.
What makes this game different from it's precessors in the beginning of the game is that the Player must secure weapons themselves by searching or handed by allies.
The begining gave us some awesome assault rifles and Snake witnessing the militia and PMC battle.
Speaking about weapons, Drebin is the Gun launder who helps you customized guns and ammo. This is a new feature and it's very entertaining.
The Octo camo is so useful, the whole camoflarge systems returns from MGS3. The whole lying on the fall and rolling over improves the gameplay with better angle of shooting and throwing grenades.
Konami has learnt their mistake, the grenade throwing has been improves with the aiming length. In the past I hated the grenade because I don't know how far did I throw but now it so comfortable to use.
The cast but there are 4 more characters.
You meet characters from MGS1-3, this is a very big fan service which I also enjoy.
Kojima done a good job on telling Snake's perspective, in MGS he's doing his job because he has to clear his name as a soldier. He has to overcome his feelings after knowing Big Boss is his father.
MGS2 portrayed Snake as a hero/mentor for saving the world from a nuke attack from several times but Snake is fighting for his belief for the future. He was a highly skilled individual who can do the impossible. Sneak in the oil tanker, Arsenal Gear and other stuff.
But in MGS4, he became weak in physically because of his aging body. But his will power manage to help him going, which makes the audience feel sorry for him. He is haunted by memories of the past.
He had a hard life but still fighting for the future and yes he's the man.
To be honest, Kojima no good at happy endings... It so wierd to have a happy ending for most characters in the Metal Gear series.
The Gameplay has been improved alot since MGS3. CQC is very easy to performed unlike MGS3. There are so many weapons which are cool, also the weight of the weapons cause Old Snake to have bad back pain which is realistic because in the other titles Snake seems pretty fine carrying all his weapons. The Middle East level is my favourite with the War zone setting and many methods of going to the destination.
The special effects such as Water splashing or the dirt explosion on the screen really makes an atmosphere.
The bad con:
- No demo theatre - to rewatch the cutscenes again.
- Codec conversation couldn't be paused
- Expected abit more battles from major boss battle excluding the Beauty and the Beast team.
- Theres no wierdness from previous games such as the Pyscho Mantis, the Sorrow and the Arsenal Gear codecs.
- Codec has only two options to contact!?
- No Zanziber Land and Russia!? I would love to see these places again...
My Rating

Gameplay: 10/10
